Jogi 2012 Fireworks

One thing you should do when you take pictures is scout the location. I did a few weeks ago, but I didn't know where the fireworks would come from.

So when I got there (in the dark) I asked another guy with a camera where the fireworks would be and he said that direction. I wanted to get both the fireworks and the whole pagoda in the shot, but now I need to wait until next year to have another chance.

I guess I could have shot in portrait.

Hanabi

There were fireworks galore on July 31 in Nakayama. I was lazy and brought my camera out on the balcony instead of trudging outside. If I had gone outside, I could have gotten some shots of the ones that were off to the right.

This was more of a practice run for the Tanabata Fireworks and the Daikanon Festival.

Last year I saw a post on Colossal about a photographer who took shots of fireworks with a macro lens. I thought that sounded [and looked] cool.

Senko hanabi are the kind of fireworks used in Japan in the early 20th century. Here is an image I found that shows why I think this shot looks like them.

By adjusting the focus when taking a long exposure of fireworks, you can get some as bokeh and some sharp.

A week of fireworks isn't bad. I had a lot more, but I tried to post what I thought were the best.
