Kura

There are many kura still standing around Sendai. Kura are basically warehouses, or if you're in Minnesota, a tool shed. They put valuables in them, and since rice was a form of money then, I think it was mostly used for rice. I'm interested in reading more about them.

  1. This is actually a very similar sight to one that you might see in a place like downtown Minnesota, or Detroit which I'm near. There are of course small differences to the details of the buildings, but still very similar. I kind of like going downtown and looking at things like this.

  2. I see these around Tochigi as well. They are really interesting looking buildings.

  3. They don't call them tool sheds in other parts of the US? haha

  5. Looks like a public utilities or well pump house.

  6. It kind of does have that utilities-feel to it.
