The Philosopher Warrior

The Philosopher Warrior

I forgot this guy's name, but I think his statue exemplifies the samurai lifestyle - swords at your side, pen in hand.

  1. Now I am really curious who that is.

It must be a samurai from the Edo period (1600-1868). It was during that time that samurai generally fulfilled that ideal of a samurai, a master of the sword and of the arts. They had a lot of time on their hands since they were no longer fighting in wars so they had to do something with their time. So they practiced their sword skills and read poetry a lot.
