Looking East From the West

This was taken on a pedestrianization bridge that crosses Hirose Dori. I wish I could have gotten a little more of the bottom in the shot.

Kokeshi Portrait

A close-up of the kokeshi statue in Nishi Park.

Nishi Park Kokeshi

This is a kokeshi doll statue in Nishi Park (the statues are much shorter). The kokeshi doll is one of the symbols of Miyagi and all around the are you can find towns with kokeshi doll statues, and a few of them claim to be where they originated.

Postal Scooter

I couldn't resist taking a shot of this postal scooter I found while walking in downtown Sendai. I wish I had left a little more room at the bottom of the photo though.

Signs of Spring

I came across this yesterday. It got me excited.

Memorial

This statue is outside the Sendai firebombing memorial hall (I don't know the exact English name). She was an 111-year-old girl who lost her life that night.

Spring is in the Air

This past weekend I went to Nishi Park and saw these buds. I am looking forward to spring.

Late Night Snow

The snow already started to melt early in the morning when I took this.

Streetlights

I really liked how this light looked against the evening sky and I tried to recreate the shot of a street light I took before.

Winter Fog

As winter changes to spring the fog rolls in more often, covering the trees and mountains.

Phonebooth

I really hope they don't get rid of theis phonebooth. I should use this sometime just for old-times-sake.

I got a chance to go to the neighborhood yakitori restaurant. I love this place.

Tail Lights

The streetlights and the tail lights looked good to me here.

Mt Izumi and the Blue Sky

This was one of the clearest days I remember. I wish that I had chosen a better place to take the picture.

This was a flower I bought for my wife, and it made for a nice photo on a gray day.

I wish I had been downtown when it was snowing like this. I was thinking of doing something earthquake related, but for me, this is what gets me through it.

Bicycling in the Snow

I guess if it is your only way to get from point A to B, you have to do it. On this day though, I wouldn't have.

Blustery

This winter has been the snowiest since I moved here four years ago. Scenes like this with cars in a traffic jam have been common.

I Need New Shoes

This was taken on my way home from work. There was a snowstorm in the morning and school was cancelled. There was not a bus at this time of day going my way, so I had to walk down the hill. I need to get a pair of hiking boots.

Huge

From this vantage point, Izumigatake looks really big. It also looks as if this is the base of the mountain, which it is not. In between here and the mountain, there is a large drop in elevation, then a flat plain on the way to the top.

Morning

A lot of my pictures recently have been the sights I see on my way to and from work. This is a snowy morning looking up the mountain from my bus stop.
