The Y in the Road

Y in the road in Sendai

This freaked me out the first time I saw it. The "main road" (that can barely fit two cars) goes off to the right, and a side road goes off to the left. I wonder if anyone has crashed into this building. If they did, they would go right into the counter of an izakaya.

  1. There are certain things about Japan that really stick in my memory. One of them is the buildings and houses that are literally inches from the road with no sidewalk or curb or other barrier. Yet, they seem to remain intact. Those houses and buildings would not last long in America before they were plowed over by a careless driver talking on their cell phone.

  2. Jazzy: Isn't it?

Tornadoes: I drive on a road narrower than this everyday and I am thankful every time I get out of it without incident.

Sendai also has its fair-share of cell-phone drivers.
